“Squid Game” Veteran Star Oh Young-soo Faces Sentence in Sexual Harassment Appeal: Final Verdict in June 10
Prosecutors have demanded a one-year prison sentence for “Squid Game“ actor Oh Young-soo in his appeal trial, following his conviction for sexually harassing a woman in 2017. The requested sentence matches the ruling from his first trial, where he was given an 8-month sentence suspended for two years.

The final hearing took place on April 3 at the Suwon District Court’s Criminal Appeals Division 6, with Judges Kwak Hyung-seop, Kim Eun-jung, and Kang Hee-kyung presiding. Prosecutors argued, “The defendant has not received forgiveness from the victim and instead continues to claim she lied. He deserves a heavy sentence.”
They further stated, “Oh Young-soo, with over 50 years in theater, abused his seniority to harass a powerless junior. The victim remains traumatized and unable to live or work normally.”

In response, Oh’s defense questioned the credibility of the testimony, saying, “Her claims lack consistency and defy logic, common experience, and independent accounts.” They also argued that his apology was taken out of context, “It was hastily written after she demanded one during the height of ‘Squid Game’’s popularity, aimed at protecting the show’s cast and staff, not an admission of guilt.”
Dressed in formal attire, Oh addressed the court himself, saying, “I’m ashamed to be on trial at this age. If I was wrong and my actions amount to a crime, I will accept it. But I still do not believe I sexually harassed anyone.”

The charges stem from two incidents in 2017, when Oh allegedly hugged the woman during a walk and later kissed her on the cheek near her home while touring for a play. He was indicted in November 2022, and sentenced in March 2023.
The appellate verdict has been postponed by a week and is now scheduled for June 10. The initial sentencing had been set for June 3 but was rescheduled due to its overlap with the presidential election following the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol.
